JOB HIGHLIGHTS

POSITION PURPOSE: Visit Detroit is seeking a proactive and creative Marketing Intern to join our dynamic team for the summer. This internship offers hands-on experience across digital marketing, content creation, social media, and visual asset management, providing a real-world understanding of destination marketing. The intern will contribute to meaningful projects that promote Metro Detroit, support marketing initiatives, and help build the city’s brand, all while developing practical skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

LOCATION & SCHEDULE: 

  • Part-Time; Non-Exempt Summer Internship   
  • In-Office – DetroitMI 
  • 28-hour workweeks from April to August. Before or during events, hours may exceed 40 hours in one week and could involve some nights and weekends. 

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

  • Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license (most positions). 
  • Basic understanding of marketing principles and concepts.
  • Interest in marketing through coursework, extracurricular activities, or previous internships.

PREFERRED:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program, preferably in Marketing or a related field.
  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or HubSpot.
  • Basic understanding of graphic design principles and experience with design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Canva).
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) concepts and tools.
  • Ability to create engaging visual and written content for various platforms.
  • Experience with social media analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics)                                                                          

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Committed to partnering with Visit Detroit in embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into company culture and operations, and actively contributing to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all employees and stakeholders. 
  • Upload blog posts to our website, ensuring content is formatted correctly and visually appealing.
  • Capture engaging social media content, including photos and videos, to promote metro Detroit across various platforms.
  • Organize and manage Visit Detroit’s visual asset library, ensuring all images and graphics are properly categorized and accessible to the marketing team.

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Provide general administrative support and assist with miscellaneous projects as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly express thoughts, ideas, and concepts, verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Skilled in organizing, prioritizing, and analyzing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to think and manage creatively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains a positive and professional work attitude, appearance, and behavior even in the most demanding situation.
  • Ability to work effectively in both remote and in-person work environment; proficient using video conferencing software and other remote work tools.
  • Proficient in using personal computer software and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
  • Available weekends and outside of normal work hours for assignments and travel, as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office work involves extended periods of sitting or working at a desk, utilizing repetitive typing motions on a computer or laptop, and reading text on a video display monitor.
  • Ability to perform extensive standing and/or walking for work-related assignments and events.
  • Ability to lift push, and or carry up to 40lbs. occasionally
