The Manufacturing Engineering Co-op Student will assist in developing and documenting robust manufacturing processes and procedures to ensure cost-effective production, while supporting initiatives to optimize machinery and resource utilization. Responsibilities also include contributing to Design for Manufacturability, supporting New Product Introduction transitions, and helping investigate quality and production issues.

About the role:  

The Manufacturing Engineering Co-op Student will contribute to the development and optimization of the manufacturing processes involved in the assembly and test of custom Nanometrics product, working closely with the engineering team.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the development and documentation of robust, flexible, and efficient manufacturing processes and procedures to ensure products are manufacturable and cost effective.

  • Support the implementation of initiatives to optimize the utilization of machinery, materials, and resources.

  • Learn about and contribute to Design for Manufacturability within the Manufacturing environment.

  • Support the successful transition of New Product Introduction between R&D and Manufacturing.

  • Assist in the development of quality and maintenance standards, schedules, and programs.

  • Help investigate yield crashes, manufacturing station issues, and part non-compliance in Production.

  • Support the identification and investigation of quality issues, learning about the CAPA process.

  • Work closely with technicians, technologists, analysts, administrative staff, and other engineers.

  • Contribute to developing project plans for new initiatives.

Requirements:   

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s program in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electromechanical, or an equivalent field.

  • Completion of relevant coursework demonstrating a foundational understanding of engineering theories and principles.

  • Familiarity with current equipment, software, data archiving, trends, and approaches to product testing and automated test methods.

  • Foundational knowledge of the measurement methods and techniques used in evaluating mechanical parts, Analog, Digital, and RF systems.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly communicate ideas to both technical and non-engineering team members, including executives.

  • Strong emerging problem identification and resolution skills, and the ability to propose alternative solutions to problems.

  • Developing time management and project management skills.

Assets:   

  • Skills in Google Suite, MS Excel, MS Access (or other SQL-based databases), and LabView. Java, Python, C/C++, or other programming languages.

  • Familiarity with document management (product change orders, BOMs, test specifications and procedures, etc.) and administrative processes.

  • Familiarity with LEAN and SixSigma principles and processes.

Salary Information:  


The expected salary range for this position is $22-$24 CAD per hour.  The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s skills, competencies, and experience for the position.
