Position Summary

Join a mission-driven communications team making a real impact on the lives of people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s social media channels reach more than 400,000 members of the IBD community — elevating patient voices, sharing critical research updates, and driving awareness of our programs.

The Social Media & Corporate Communications Intern will support the Foundation’s national social media and storytelling efforts, gaining hands-on experience in content creation, digital community engagement, and nonprofit communications. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications and Social Media, this intern will assist with daily social media operations, writing and scheduling posts, tracking analytics, managing creative assets, and supporting content development across the Foundation’s communication channels. 

This position is ideal for a student or early-career professional who is passionate about digital media, health communications, and making a difference through storytelling.

This is an 8-week paid Internship opportunity, running from June 8 - July 30, 2026 with 29 hours/week anticipated. This is a hybrid internship with 2 days/week in the Foundation's New York City office and the remaining work remote.  

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the Foundation’s national social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, and Bluesky).
  • Draft and schedule social media posts to promote research breakthroughs, patient education events, advocacy initiatives, and community stories.
  • Create social graphics and short videos using Canva brand templates.
  • Monitor social media communities and help respond to messages, comments, and engagement opportunities.
  • Support ongoing campaigns by collecting metrics in Sprout Social and summarizing performance insights.
  • Help manage social media requests from internal teams in Asana and maintain an organized content calendar.
  • Other duties as required

 Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Working knowledge of major social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X).
  • Experience with Canva or similar content design tools; familiarity with short-form video editing is a plus.
  • Interest in nonprofit and healthcare communications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; comfortable managing multiple projects.
  • Experience with project or social media management tools (Asana, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar) is preferred but not required.
