The Turf Technician Intern at Cabot Pacific, will support tasks involving the use of large and small equipment, tractors, perform routine manual labour involved in golf course construction and has a shared vision for delivering on the brand’s mission to “Creating Magical Places.”  

Profile Overview

Reporting to Cabot Pacific’s Assistant Superintendent, the Golf Course Turf Technician Intern is a dependable individual who is both hard working and coachable. The Golf Course Turf Intern brings a positive attitude and exemplifies Cabot’s values of confidence, authenticity, humility, and warmth.

 Core Accountabilities:

  • Operate hand brushing equipment such as but not limited to thinning saws, line trimmers, push and self-propelled walk mowers.
  • Operate gasoline, diesel and electric utility vehicles and other maintenance equipment in a safe, non-destructive manner.
  • Perform installation, inspection, replacement, and repair of a highly functional sediment & erosion control program.
  • Hand-water assigned areas of the golf course using hoses and sprinklers.
  • Daily debris and garbage collection throughout the property.
  • Learn golf terminology and the importance of each playable area such as greens, tees, and fairways.
  • Visually inspect tools & equipment; report any equipment problems or failures to senior leaders.
  • Clean, detail and return all equipment and tools to designated areas daily. 
  • Always ensure a safe, clean and productive work environment.
  • Execute all duties, tasks and assignments as instructed while always using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Identify unsafe areas and activities and report hazards immediately.
  • Focus on team building behavior to ensure a positive work environment.
  • Adhere to the Cabot Team Member Reference Handbook, Policies, Rules and Guidelines.
  • Other tasks may be assigned by the design and leadership teams. 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation of motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles to safely operate gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Aptitude and ability to operate hand blowers, trimmers, brushing saws and other various hand tools and equipment required to perform a task.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work flexible hours – mornings, evenings, weekdays, and weekends as required.
  • Positive attitude and excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHIMIS).
  • Previous golf course maintenance and\or construction experience an asset but not required.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to:

  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.
  • Communicate verbally with team members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios.
  • Ability to spend long hours moving around, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, shoveling and/or raking.
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with and around motorized equipment movement hazards. 

Work Schedule:
The Golf Course Turf Technician Intern will be required to work a minimum 40 – 48-hour work week. The position requires the individual to fulfill a posted work schedule based on operational necessities as deemed essential by the Company and its business demands. From time to time as the weather and golf course construction schedule are required, overtime shifts are expected. The posted work schedule will be available in advance bi-weekly. This position is seasonal and available April through November.
