Housing is provided in a modular home on the Mt Haggin Wildlife Management Area. A state vehicle will be provided for transportation to and from work areas. Per diem may also be available for meals and overnight stays.

Specific Job Information:

Fisheries interns in the will have 2 primary responsibilities: 1. In May and early June successful applicants will assist in fish culture duties at the Washoe Park Fish Hatchery in Anaconda. These duties will include spawning and rearing westslope cutthroat trout, spawning of wild cutthroat trout that are reared in an isolation building, and other hatchery duties including stocking of fish, grounds keeping and maintenance. The second primary duty will be to assist in fisheries related research and restoration in the Big Hole drainage. Interns will participate in large-scale native fish restoration projects that will involve the removal of non-native trout species and the eventual restoration of native westslope cutthroat trout and Arctic grayling. The internship will also include electrofishing small streams to quantify the abundance and distribution of Arctic grayling, westslope cutthroat trout, and other fish species. Mid elevation lakes will also be sampled using netting techniques such as gill and trap nets. Backcountry work sampling high mountain lakes may also be performed. Inventories of native burbot, western pearl shell mussels and restoration of westslope cutthroat trout may all be conducted.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Needs to be actively enrolled in a college.
