About the Role
Vacancy Status: This posting is for a newly created student position.
Reporting to the Climate Response and Sustainability Project Manager, the successful candidate will assist in renewing the Corporate Climate Action Plan, supporting the Community Climate Adaptation Plan, logging and monitoring climate initiatives, and coordinating community outreach, engagement events, and workshops.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting research, analysis, and reporting to support updates to the Corporate Climate Action Plan, outlining recommended actions for the next five years to advance Clarington’s 2050 net zero greenhouse gas emissions reduction target.
- Assisting in developing the Community Climate Adaptation Plan, including coordinating outreach activities, supporting community workshops, preparing reports and meeting minutes, and tracking local actions for the project consultant.
- Supporting communications, community engagement, outreach activities, and workshops, for staff, stakeholders and the community.
- Analyzing and documenting corporate climate actions to quantify greenhouse gas emissions reductions and contributing to the annual climate progress report.
- Other duties that may be assigned, as required.
What you bring
- Candidates are being hired through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program. In accordance with the CSJ Program, interested applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the beginning of employment.
- Must be able to legally work in Canada.
- Completed at least three (3) years of post-secondary education in a related field such as Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability, Communications, Planning or a related field.
- Relevant experience supporting climate‑related projects, community engagement activities, environmental research, or municipal sustainability initiatives is an asset.
- Strong research, analytical, data management, and task management skills, with the ability to accurately analyze and compile information for reports, policies, and projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with experience in community outreach and engagement.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation approaches, including planning frameworks, actions, and strategies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
What we offer
- $22.80 per hour (2026)
- Hours of work: 35 hours per week
- This position is currently eligible for a flexible (hybrid) work arrangement option. Further details on this program will be discussed through the selection process.
Additional Information
A satisfactory criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.
Pre-employment testing may consist of written and oral assessments.
