About The Company
Del-Co Water, a 501-C (12) corporation, is a private, non-profit public drinking water system with a service area that extends into eight central Ohio counties. As a public water supplier, Del-Co Water operates under the authority of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA). A license (PWS-2101412) issued by Ohio EPA covers the operation, maintenance, and water quality activities related to the four water treatment facilities, the network of underground piping, and a series of 30 elevated storage tanks. Over the years Del-Co Water has increased the capacity of the drinking water system in response to the rapid population growth in the central Ohio region. The current design capacity of the treatment facilities is 45.5 million gallons of drinking water per day. Del-Co Water is currently reviewing demographic projections and expects continued growth of residential communities within the Del-Co service area. With this information, Del-Co Water will keep pace with future expansion by identifying and designing key infrastructure elements. About the Role

Reports to: GIS Manger 

Status: Hourly (non-exempt)

Classification: Temporary

Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm M-F (preferred)

Duration: 5/19 - 8/14/26

Location: Delaware, OH

Rate: $16.75 - $18.46 / hour


Position Summary: The GIS Intern supports the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Del-Co’s Geographic Information System (GIS). This position provides hands-on experience working with spatial data related to water distribution and associated assets. The intern will assist with data editing, mapping, field data collection, and analysis to help ensure accurate and reliable infrastructure records.

This internship offers valuable experience in public utility operations, asset management, and spatial data analysis within a mission-driven organization dedicated to delivering safe and reliable water services.

 

Essential Duties

  • Data entry and quality control efforts to ensure accuracy and completeness of GIS records.
  • Conducts data collection in the field to include the use of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) equipment.
  • QA/QC of GNSS data collected by other Del-Co personnel.
  • Collects, prepares, and digitizes spatial data into GIS format.
  • Reads and interprets source documents such as civil engineering plans, plot maps, planning and zoning maps, and legal descriptions.
  • Conducts mapping research, in the field and the office, to resolve conflicting information, ensure accuracy of the data, and respond to questions and concerns.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Follow all recommendations for safe operating of tools and equipment.
  • Work as a team member and cooperate with others on group projects.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients,      co-workers and management.
  • Know and uphold the policies, procedures and philosophies of the company.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in geospatial-related coursework, or recent graduate with a geospatial-related associate or bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to comprehend and understand engineering plans and schematics.
  • Experience with GIS, waterline construction, and GNSS data collection is preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to interact on a professional level with Del-Co staff, contractors, developers, and homeowners. 
  • Must be detailed orientated and well organized. 
  • Must be able to perform manual labor and work in adverse weather conditions. 
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
