About The Company
Del-Co Water, a 501-C (12) corporation, is a private, non-profit public drinking water system with a service area that extends into eight central Ohio counties. As a public water supplier, Del-Co Water operates under the authority of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA). A license (PWS-2101412) issued by Ohio EPA covers the operation, maintenance, and water quality activities related to the four water treatment facilities, the network of underground piping, and a series of 30 elevated storage tanks. Over the years Del-Co Water has increased the capacity of the drinking water system in response to the rapid population growth in the central Ohio region. The current design capacity of the treatment facilities is 45.5 million gallons of drinking water per day. Del-Co Water is currently reviewing demographic projections and expects continued growth of residential communities within the Del-Co service area. With this information, Del-Co Water will keep pace with future expansion by identifying and designing key infrastructure elements. Status: Hourly (non-exempt)

Classification: Temporary

Hours: M-F 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Hours/days are flexible)

Location: Delaware, OH

Duration: Projected 5/19– 8/15/24

Rate: Pay is based on the school year the candidate will be entering. Freshman and Sophomore $16.75; Junior and Senior $18.46


Del-Co’s Internship Program provides each student with valuable hands-on experience, personalized coaching and mentoring within a unique industry. As the Sustainability Intern, you will assist in the development and implementation of Del-Co’s Sustainability strategies.


Essential Duties:

· Update Del-Co’s carbon footprint study to examine the environmental impacts of our business practices.

· Perform outdoor maintenance of tree nursery and pollinator gardens, including planting, weeding, watering, and general upkeep.

· Conduct fieldwork involving tree and grassland species identification, invasive species removal, and habitat assessments.

· Research, draft, and apply for Federal, State, or local grants applicable to Del-Co Water’s sustainability goals.

· Communicate Del-Co’s sustainability initiatives and events to internal and public audiences via Instagram and other social media platforms.

· Enter and manipulate data in Excel for various sustainability reports and projects.

· Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications:

· Currently pursuing a degree at an accredited college/university with an area of focus in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, Environmental Policy, or related field.

· General understanding of reducing waste through sustainability initiatives.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

· Capable of conducting technical research to inform and enhance project outcomes.

· Ability to perform mathematical calculations and data management.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
