About the Role

Project Opportunity

FCC Canada, in a 50/50 joint venture with Webuild Civil Works Inc., will deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line. This includes the design, construction, supply, and operation of three kilometres of twin tunnels underneath Pape Avenue between the Gerrard tunnel portal and the Don Valley bridge, two underground stations (Pape and Cosburn), two tunnel portals, three emergency exit buildings, and a rail switch/crossover near Sammon Avenue. 

The Pape Station connection will interface with the Toronto Transit Commission Line 2 subway and related works. 

The project uses a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) model, allowing greater collaboration between the project owner and contractor.

Position Summary:

Join our Technical Team as a Geotechnical Instrumentation & Monitoring (GIM) Co-op Student and gain hands-on experience supporting one of Toronto’s major transit infrastructure projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to integrate into the industry and gain visibility into the technical challenges and real-world solutions that drive complex design and construction initiatives. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and design managers while learning the fundamentals of geotechnical monitoring, civil design processes, and project coordination in a large-scale, multidisciplinary environment.

 

The Project Coordinator (GIM) Intern key responsibilities are:

  • As a member of the GIM team, you’ll play a key role in supporting daily technical and coordination activities. Your responsibilities will include: 
  • Assisting in the preparation, maintenance, and tracking of monitoring tools, data sheets, and reports. 
  • Supporting the Technical Team in expediting and streamlining ongoing technical tasks. 
  • Coordinating and documenting technical meetings and follow-ups between internal design and construction teams. 
  • Helping with data collection, processing, and preliminary analysis related to geotechnical instrumentation. 
  • Supporting AutoCAD drafting or related design documentation tasks under guidance from senior engineers. 
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in monitoring, reporting, and data management systems. 
  • This role provides exposure to geotechnical and civil design processes from start to finish, offering practical insight into how data-driven monitoring informs design decisions in major infrastructure projects.
     

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • We’re seeking a motivated, detail-oriented co-op student who is eager to learn and contribute to a dynamic technical environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: 
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Geotechnical, or related Engineering program at a recognized university (e.g., University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, Queen’s University). 
  • Technical Skills: 
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar drafting and analysis software. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). 
  • Familiarity with geotechnical or structural monitoring concepts is an asset. 
  • Soft Skills: 
  • Proactive, self-starting attitude with strong organizational skills. 
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities. 
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn about the integration of design and field monitoring.

Salary Banding: $50,000 - $55,000
