Intern - Manufacturing Engineering
Composed of Chromalox, Durex Industries, Vulcanic, and Thermocoax businesses, Electrical Thermal Solutions (ETS), part of Spirax Group, creates electrical process heating and temperature management solutions, including industrial heaters and systems, heat tracing, and a range of component technologies.
At Chromalox, we build advanced thermal technologies for the world’s most challenging industrial heating applications.
Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we got our start with an innovative solution 100 years ago when a self-taught engineer invented the first metal-sheathed resistance heating element. It was this then-advanced thermal technology that launched an entire industry.
We excel in industries that have high expectations. We are acknowledged as experts at delivering solutions that exceed specifications, limit risk, and reduce operating costs.
Join us as we continue to provide solutions to our customers and the world!
The Role:
Under the supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering
Manager, works with Manufacturing Engineers to determine the most effective
methods to increase productivity and maximize efficiency by eliminating
wastefulness in production processes. Devise efficient systems that integrate
workers, machines, materials and information in the manufacture of
products. Depending on job performance and company needs, this could turn
into a full-time position at time of graduation.
Your Responsibilities:
- Works to
improve and manage manufacturing processes; develops the most efficient
ways to utilize employees, machinery and other assets to improve
operations within the facility.
- Designs
and implements new processes and/or tooling required for new products,
parts or components to include research and purchasing decisions and the
assessment of required staffing and training.
- Able to
perform operational studies of existing operations to determine items such
as productivity standards, productivity improvement, operational needs
analysis, time studies, and operation changes.
- Works
with manufacturing, engineering and quality to ensure process controls are
in place for new and existing equipment and processes including TPM, PM
and safe operation compliance.
- Designs
and implements improvements for the use of machines or specialized
tooling, worker training, staffing and scheduling changes.
- Develops
training material and conducts training on process control activities;
recommends revisions and updates to standard operating procedures and work
instructions as needed.
- Trains
and directs workers engaged in measuring, testing, and tabulating data
concerning process performance and control.
- Devises
sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for
recording, evaluating, and reporting process output; develops test plans
and evaluates production and testing equipment.
- Studies
material flow and operations sequence, maps process and conducts studies
to maximize workflow and spatial utilization; monitors and works to
improve efficiency and safe operations to meet quality and throughput
needs of the customer.
- Manages
key improvement projects across all functional areas of the organization;
develops VSMs and schedules Kaizen events and ensures completion to
schedule.
- Applies
Lean Manufacturing methodology for process improvement initiatives;
provides periodic reports on cost savings and process improvements.
- Supports
improvement initiatives for environmental and safety compliance programs.
- Will help
design prototypes or modifications to existing product or equipment.
- Support
of company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and
activities.
- Maintenance
of a clean and orderly work area.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial
Engineering or Engineering student with three plus years completed course
work towards major with three years relevant experience and/or training.
- Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software
applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation
software.
- AutoCAD and Inventor experience with Solid Modeling and 3D
design experience preferred. Familiar with manufacturing processes
such as heavy equipment manufacturing, welding technology, control panel,
materials technology, manufacturing methods technology preferred.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as
frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity,
analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor
analysis. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and
draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of
technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with
several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and
procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond
