The Commercial Banking Internship at First Security Bank is designed to immerse you in the real work, real relationships, and real decision-making that drive local businesses and our community forward. Throughout the 10-Week program, you and the members of the 2026 cohort will step directly into the world of commercial banking by taking part in a simulated commercial lending engagement, as well as contributing to current projects that will have you working alongside experienced bankers in real time. As an intern, you won’t just observe. You’ll participate in managing risk, organize intricate data, negotiate complex commercial contracts, and deliver value to all the Bank’s stakeholders.
In the simulated lending engagement, you and your team will analyze financial statements, assess creditworthiness, create loan presentations, and gain insight into how commercial credit decisions are made. The lending simulation will be structured with an education component that will be immediately practiced in the fictionalized, yet real life situation. In addition to the simulated environment, you will have the opportunity to join members of our senior lending team on client calls where you will learn how relationships are built and maintained and see firsthand how we support businesses across Missoula.
This internship is experiential at its core. You’ll work on real projects within cross functional teams, and explore multiple areas of commercial banking, including credit analysis, portfolio management, relationship banking, loan operations, and more. Along the way, you will receive mentorship, hands-on training, and exposure to senior leadership, helping you build both technical skills and professional confidence.
If you’re curious about a career in banking and are excited to learn how businesses thrive in Missoula, this internship offers a unique opportunity to learn, contribute, and explore a dynamic career that can add value to yourself and your community.
