About the Role

2026 BHP Indigenous Intern Program

About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success. Come and be a part of this success.

BHP is committed to creating meaningful career pathways for Indigenous peoples across Australia. As many of our operations are located on or near Indigenous traditional lands, we acknowledge and respect the cultural heritage, rights and connections of Indigenous communities, and we continue to strengthen our relationships through our Reconciliation Action Plan.

About the Role
Begin building your future with an internship that gives you meaningful experience, real exposure and the support needed to grow your skills at Australia’s global resources company. The BHP Australia Intern Program is designed to help you apply what you’re learning at university in a practical environment, surrounded by teams who encourage you, challenge you, and invest in your development.

You’ll spend 10–12 weeks working across one of our operational locations, gaining practical experience and learning directly from the people who keep our business moving. Along the way, you’ll collaborate with graduates, technical experts and fellow interns, expanding your capability and building connections that will support your career growth.

You’ll take part in networking events, connect with leaders across the business, and gain exposure to the scale and complexity of the resources sector early in your career. Many of our interns go on to join our Graduate Program or are invited back for additional internships, depending on their year of study.

Working arrangements differ across our assets, and can be Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) roles or based locally near our mining operations, depending on the location. We encourage you to consider the opportunities and lifestyle each working arrangement offers when applying.

This program is all about potential, and gaining real experience, exploring career pathways and discovering where you could grow next.

What We Are Looking For
We’re looking for curious, motivated students who are adaptable, flexible and eager to learn. Strong communication skills, problem-solving capability and the ability to work well in a team will set you up for success in this program.

You’ll be a student in your second year through to your penultimate year, available to work with us over the 2026/27 summer break.

Your degree could be from the following disciplines (including but not limited to):

  • Engineering: Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Civil, Geotechnical, Metallurgy / Minerals Processing, Chemical, Construction, Environmental, or Instrumentation, Control & Automation.

  • Science: Hydrogeology, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Spatial Science (Surveying), or Geographical Information Systems

  • Technology: Data Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Software Engineering, or Mathematics.

  • Business: Accounting, Finance, Business, Supply Chain, Logistics Management, Commerce or Project Management.
