At BHP, we believe the best tomorrow is built through working, learning and innovating together and through this connection, building your skills for now, and the future. Come and join us in the 2026 Mining Intern Program.

Please note: If you are studying Geology, or other disciplines, please submit your application to the relevant advert at careers.bhp.com. Only one application is required.

Mining Internship

If you’re studying mining and want to see how your learning translates into real operational outcomes, a BHP Mining Internship is the ideal place to begin. Mining is at the core of our business - from designing safe and efficient mine plans, to supporting daily production and driving continuous improvement across our sites.

As an intern, you’ll work alongside mining engineers, geotechnical specialists and operational teams who play a crucial role in shaping how our mines operate every day, giving you genuine insight into the engineering and decision‑making that underpins BHP’s success.

Degrees we consider (including but not limited to):

  • Mining Engineering (primary degree for mining roles)

About the Role
Over the 2026/27 summer, you’ll spend 10–12 weeks at one of our operational sites, gaining hands‑on experience and learning from the people who keep our business running. You’ll work with graduates, technical specialists and fellow interns while building skills and connections that support your career. You’ll meet leaders across the business and gain early exposure to the scale of the resources sector, with many interns later joining our Graduate Program or returning for additional internships depending on their stage of study.

Working arrangements differ across our assets and mining opportunities can be Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) roles or based locally near our mining operations, depending on the location. We encourage you to consider the opportunities and lifestyle each working arrangement offers when applying.

This program is all about potential, and gaining real experience, exploring career pathways and discovering where you could grow next.

What We Are Looking For
We’re looking for students who are curious about mining, eager to learn, and ready to gain hands on experience in largescale operational environments. You’ll be someone who enjoys solving practical problems, asks great questions, and is motivated to see how engineering principles translate into real world outcomes on-site and in largescale operational environments.

  • A genuine interest in mining and how mine planning, production, safety and operational systems come together in day-to-day operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through technical challenges and contribute to improvement ideas
  • A commitment to safety, understanding that safe decision making is fundamental in everything we do

To be eligible, you’ll be in your second to penultimate year of a Mining Engineering (or mining aligned) degree and available to complete a 10–12-week internship over the 2026/27 summer period.

This internship is ideal for students who want to explore how mining works in practice, gain exposure to different stages of the mining lifecycle, and see what a future career with BHP’s Mining Graduate Program could look like.
