About the Role

AccuWeather’s Digital Team is seeking an Editorial Intern for Summer 2026. Join us in a hands-on newsroom role where you'll help shape daily weather coverage for AccuWeather.com. You’ll collaborate closely with editors and meteorologists to pitch compelling story ideas, research developing weather events, and write digital-first articles that inform and engage our audience. This role offers the opportunity to build real-world newsroom experience, sharpen your writing skills, and learn how data, SEO, and emerging AI tools support modern digital publishing. You’ll also assist with sourcing and clearing user-generated content to help bring impactful weather stories to life across platforms.

This paid internship spans 5 months and requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week. Morning and daytime availability is preferred, though some evening hours may be accommodated.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Finding and gathering information to pitch timely, weather-related story ideas for AccuWeather.com.

● Writing multiple digital stories per month for publication on AccuWeather.com.

● Conducting source gathering and research to support accurate, compelling weather coverage.

● Using ChatGPT and other AI tools to edit content, test prompts, and optimize stories for digital platforms.

● Sourcing and clearing user-generated content for use in articles and on social platforms.

● Collaborating with editors, meteorologists, and the social team to align coverage across platforms.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

● Pursuing a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Meteorology or a related field that requires experience in writing and research.

● Strong writing, editing, and research skills with attention to accuracy and detail.

● Interest in weather, climate, and science-based storytelling.

● Basic understanding of SEO and digital publishing best practices is a plus.

● Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

● Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Must be willing to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
