About the Role

IT Business Analyst Intern
 

Schedule: M-F 8:30a.m. – 5 p.m., with hybrid flexibly depending on needs.  Typical in office days are Tues., Wed., Thurs.

Location: 1160 Basin Park, 1160 Pittsford-Victor Rd., Pittsford, NY 14534 

What does a summer intern at Canandaigua National Bank do?

Our interns experience firsthand what it is like working in the world of financial services. As a summer intern you will work side by side with our team to provide individuals, businesses, municipalities, and not-for-profit organizations with access to all the financial services they will ever need. Interns will act as a member of the team for the summer, assisting the department and helping achieve the bank’s goal – of ensuring our community thrives and grows. 

Throughout the summer, interns will have an opportunity to connect with each other, shadow within a branch, network with different departments, and enjoy social events.  The summer culminates in a presentation to their managers and the Executive Team.  

This position is a paid internship/co-op for Summer 2026.  Program begins Tuesday, May 26th, 2026.

IT Business Analyst Intern

The dynamic and growing team of CNB IT Business Analysts are dedicated to bridging the gap between business needs and technological solutions. An IT Business Analyst works on a variety of projects, from process improvement to application development, collaborating closely with stakeholders across the organization.

We are seeking enthusiastic and curious individuals with a passion for technology and a desire to gain valuable experience in the field of IT Business Analysis. This internship is a great opportunity for you to learn from experienced professionals and mentors, contribute to real-world, meaningful projects, and develop your skills in analysis, communication, and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis and Research
    1. Assist in gathering and analyzing user stories, acceptance criteria, and business requirements for IT projects.
    2. Participating in workshops and meetings with stakeholders.
    3. Conduct research on industry trends and best practices relevant to assigned projects.
    4. Prepare data visualizations and reports to communicate findings and insights.
    5. Conducting basic data analysis and reporting.
    6. Assisting with testing and validation of new systems.
  • Documentation and Communication
    1. Create and maintain clear and concise user stories and business requirement documents (BRDs).
    2. Facilitate communication between technical and business stakeholders.
    3. Participate in project meetings and take detailed notes.
    4. Documenting business processes, workflows, and other project documentation.
  • Process Improvement
    1. Identify opportunities for streamlining and improving IT processes.
    2. Develop recommendations for process enhancements based on analysis and research.
    3. Create and update process flowcharts and diagrams.
  • Additional Tasks Ancillary Duties (Depending on Opportunity & Skillset)
    1. Assist with project management tasks as needed.
    2. Conduct market research and competitor analysis.
    3. Researching and proposing new technologies and solutions.
    4. Learn and utilize relevant IT tools and software (e.g., data visualization tools, project management platforms).
    5. Shadow Senior Business Analysts to learn best practices.
    6. Assist with maintaining team knowledge base and resources.
    7. Participate in team-building activities and contribute to a positive work environment.
    8. Creating visual representations of data and processes.
    9. Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.

What would our ideal candidate look like?

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Coursework in in Business Analysis, Project Management, Information Systems, and System Analysis & Design preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic IT concepts and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarly with SQL or other data querying languages, Tableau, Power BI a plus.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management frameworks.
  • Possess strong communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Desire and comfort interacting with a wide variety of people, both internally and externally.  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation - $18-$20 per hour
The actual salary offered within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, and performance expectations.
