Quality Engineer Intern

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer Intern will report to the Quality Manager and work closely with the Quality Engineer to address non-conforming material issues (Red Tags), initiate and manage corrective actions, develop procedures, and best practices, and identify and resolve other quality issues. The Quality Engineer intern will assist in using quality and problem-solving tools (e.g. root cause analysis) to bring about solutions.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with the Administration of the non-conforming material (Red Tag) system
  1. Identify the appropriate disposition of non-conforming material
  2. Record and tabulate red tag information (e.g. cost of poor quality, frequency and quantity)
  3. Work on system improvements to prevent non-conforming material
  4. Work with other departments to resolve red tags
• Assist with the Administration of the corrective action system
  1. Organize and lead corrective action teams
  2. Assist in implementing corrective action solutions
  3. Perform analyses to assure corrective actions are working and effective
  4. Interface with customers on quality issues
  5. Interface with suppliers on quality issues
• Work with procedures and best practices
  1. Assist in identifying where procedures will be beneficial and useful
  2. Write procedures for the Quality Department
  3. Assist others in writing procedures
  4. Train others on procedures and quality
• Create and report periodic quality metrics
• Perform other duties not necessarily outlined above as assigned
• Adhere to company practices, disciplines, and accepted standards of ethics and behavior

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of and ability to use problem solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5 Why, and fishbone diagrams.
• Ability to evaluate and analyze complex process data.
• Experience with working in multi-functional teams is a plus.
• Ability to present data and conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Ability to manage workload to achieve delivery dates.
• Experience with reading and interpreting industry standards.
• Must read, write, and communicate in English.

Skills and Abilities:

• Microsoft Access
• Ability to speak Spanish
• Mechanical Aptitude
• Understanding of statistics
• Statistical process control
• 5S experience
• Understanding of calibration

Qualifications:

• Currently working on a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited school in a related field is required, preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, or Process Engineering. 
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
