About The Company
The development, manufacture, project management and servicing of wind turbines in the onshore segment has been the core competence and passion of the Nordex Group and its more than 10,900 employees worldwide for 40 years. As one of the world's largest wind turbine manufacturers, the Nordex Group offers high-yield, cost-efficient wind turbines that enable long-term and economical power generation from wind energy in all geographical and climatic conditions. The focus is on turbines in the 3 to 7 MW class, and the Group’s comprehensive product portfolio offers individual solutions for both markets with limited space and regions with limited grid capacities. A global service network, of around 380 service points throughout 30 countries, delivers service quickly to keep our systems running smoothly. The Group covers the needs of all customer segments within the global wind market, from large energy suppliers to SMEs operating power plants. With more than 61 GW of installed capacity worldwide, Nordex Group systems deliver sustainable energy throughout more than 80 per cent of the world’s energy market (excluding China). Nordex SE is listed on the TecDAX and MDAX of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ISIN: DE000A0D6554). The headoffice of the company, with the Management Board and central corporate functions, is located in Hamburg, while the legal entity is registered in Rostock. At production facilities in Germany, Spain, Brazil, the US, and India, the Nordex Group produces nacelles, rotor blades and concrete towers. The Group also maintains offices and branches in more than 30 countries.
About the Role

In this master thesis project, you will join our Grid Integration Control team and work on modelling and controlling hybrid power plants. You contribute to impedance‑based modelling approaches, support stability analysis, and help improve grid compatibility of modern wind energy systems. Your work strengthens the performance and robustness of Hybrid Power Plants in future power systems.

YOUR TASKS

  • You develop impedance models for wind farms and battery energy storage systems in dq0 coordinates within a hybrid power plant setting
  • You validate impedance models against EMT simulations and raw field measurement data
  • You design control strategies for voltage and frequency control in hybrid power plants while considering coupling effects
  • You perform tuning processes for PMS control loops in MATLAB/Simulink
  • You contribute to improving impedance measurement methods and modelling workflows

YOUR PROFILE

  • You are enrolled in a Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Power Systems or equivalent
  • You have knowledge of electrical energy systems, ideally with exposure to wind energy
  • You bring experience in MATLAB/Simulink or PSCAD, ideally including power system toolboxes
  • You are interested in stability analysis, system modelling and control design
  • Experience with converter control or wind farm control systems is an advantage
  • You have programming skills in MATLAB; additional languages such as Python or C/C++ are a plus
  • You work in a structured, analytical and self‑organized manner on complex technical topics
