Founded in 2009 Toppling Goliath Brewing Company was a runaway success, in less than a decade TG has become world renown it's IPA and barrel-aged beers. In order to meet overwhelming demand, construction on a new facility has begun in TG’s birthplace, Decorah, Iowa. Are you a college student looking for hands-on, résumé building Coop experience? If you’re eager to gain practical laboratory skills in a quality control setting, we’d love to meet you. 

Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Control Coop to join our team for the summer, with the opportunity to continue during the school year. You’ll support our commitment to high-quality products while working in a collaborative and innovative environment. 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct routine quality tests on raw materials, process samples, and finished products, including pH, specific gravity, alcohol content, color, and sensory characteristics. 
  • Assist with microbiological testing to identify and prevent potential contamination. 
  • Conduct sensory evaluations to assess beer quality and consistency. 
  • Record and organize laboratory data with accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Support troubleshooting efforts and help implement corrective actions. 
  • Collaborate with brewing and packaging teams to maintain quality standards throughout production. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by participating in quality-related projects and research. 
  • Adhere to all laboratory and brewery safety protocols while maintaining a clean and professional work environment. 

Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile 

  • Current college student with an interest in chemistry, biology, food science, brewing science, or related disciplines. 
  • Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and willingness to learn technical skills. 
  • Comfortable working both independently and within a collaborative team setting. 
  • Professional, dependable, and eager to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced production environment. 

Physical & Work Requirements 

  • Ability to stand for most of the shift and perform frequent physical movements including bending, reaching, and lifting. 
  • Ability to work with hot and cold liquids, chemicals, and standard laboratory and brewing equipment. 

Schedule & Hours 

  • Full time during summer (approximately 40 hours per week). 
  • Part-time opportunities are available during the academic year. 
  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; rarely weekend hours. (Expected hours have the potential to change based on production needs.) 
  • No overnight travel is expected.
