SUMMARY:

 

The People Experience Intern will play a key role in designing a comprehensive skills matrix that enables Operations to understand current capabilities, identify gaps, and plan effectively for future workforce needs. This work will be completed in close partnership with Plant Leadership, Talent Development, and Total Rewards to ensure the framework is scalable and can be replicated across additional locations.

 

This internship provides hands-on experience in organizational design, workforce planning, and talent development within a fast-paced production environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Skills Matrix Development

  • Develop a comprehensive skills matrix that clearly outlines current capabilities, identifies skill gaps, and highlights future workforce requirements across all production roles.
  • Partner closely with Plant Leadership, Talent Development, Total Rewards, and the People Business Partner to ensure the matrix aligns with operational needs, training programs, and compensation structures.
  • Build scalable processes and tools that enable the skills matrix framework to be replicated effectively across additional SCT locations.
  • Analyze workforce capability trends and provide insights that support succession planning, staffing decisions, and long‑term organizational workforce strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager and department leaders to define technical, safety, and behavioral competencies required for each production role.
  • Document required skills by job role, level, and shift to ensure consistency and clarity across departments.
  • Support the development and ongoing maintenance of a structured skills matrix organized by department and job family.
  • Help establish clear proficiency levels (e.g., foundational, intermediate, advanced, expert) to support development planning and progression criteria.
  • Work with supervisors and subject matter experts to validate skill requirements and ensure accuracy of competency expectations.

 

Documentation & Communication

  • Create clear, professional documentation of frameworks and tools
  • Assist in preparing communication materials for managers and employees
  • Support rollout planning and feedback collection

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Interest in workforce planning, talent development, or organizational design
  • Experience working in manufacturing, production, or operations environments (a plus)
  • Familiarity with competency modeling or skills assessment frameworks

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Canva or other design tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn about various aspects of human resources.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read, understand, and communicate to others the meaning of complex documents including legal documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly and communicate in English.
