Your Impact
The Vertex Enterprise Applications and Analytics co-op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in Project Management or Human Resources-related fields of study. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our DTE functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career.

What you will be doing:

As a Co-op Student in Application & Product Management, you’ll work closely with the DTE team, developers and designers to support the entire product lifecycle for HR applications. You’ll help gather user feedback, analyze product performance, assist with feature planning, and contribute to improving our applications. This role offers exposure to both the strategic and tactical aspects of product management, from understanding customer needs to supporting product launches.


You’ll participate in product meetings, conduct user research, help maintain product documentation, and use data to inform product decisions. We’ll also ensure you have mentorship and learning opportunities throughout your term to develop skills that will serve you well in your career.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality product features.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support product development and decision-making.
  • Assist in testing and quality assurance to ensure product reliability and performance.
  • Document processes, workflows, and technical specifications to support team operations.

Scrum Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily stand-up meetings to ensure team alignment and progress tracking.
  • Assist in organizing and scheduling Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owners to maintain and prioritize the product backlog.
  • Support the team in identifying and addressing blockers to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Promote Agile best practices and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Track and document sprint progress using tools like sprint boards and generate relevant reports.

General Goals

  • Understand our product portfolio, and user base.

  • Learn the product development process and key tools/systems.
  • Build relationships with team members across product, engineering, and design.

Deliverable Goals

  • Develop technical and professional skills through hands-on project work and mentorship.
  • Gain foundational knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Build expertise in backlog management, prioritization, and sprint planning.
  • Understand the role of agile in driving team success and continuous improvement.

  • Actively participate in product team meetings and retrospectives.
  • Seek and apply regular feedback from your manager.
  • Expand your professional network through informational interviews.
  • Deliver a final presentation summarizing your contributions and key learnings.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and majoring in Project Management, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026
  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July – December 2026
