Family & Children’s Agency (FCA) is a nonprofit human service organization that is committed to increasing the social and emotional well-being of our clients – people throughout Fairfield County. Our Agency builds better lives by offering more than 30 programs that meet needs across all ages, delivering services to more than 13,000 people each year. Our clients reside primarily in Norwalk, Wilton, Darien, Westport, Weston, New Canaan, Stamford, and Greenwich. Our Home Care and Foster Care programs provide assistance to residents throughout Fairfield County, and the Adoption program is both nationwide and international.

Location: FCA - 9 Mott Ave, Norwalk, CT 

Duration: June to August (Summer)

Hours: Flexible hours based on availability

            

Qualifications / Education: 

  • Social Work; Human Services or Public Health Major
  • Undergraduate; Graduate or Postgraduate
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledgeable with computers and other technology
  • Work well with others and take constructive criticism
  • Patient with senior and younger disabled population 
  • Ability to respond courteously to the public

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  

  • Intern/volunteer will be trained in each task assigned by Manager / Senior outreach Worker.
  • Help with Renter’s Rebate Program by answering phone calls, provide benefits explanation and scheduling appointments.
  • Assist Senior Services Staff with copies, scanning and uploading documents to appropriate reporting system used by department.
  • Wellness check calls to specific senior housing sites.
  • Plan and coordinate recreational, informational, cultural, and social activities in coordination with Senior Outreach Worker.
  • Attending meetings as required by Department.
  • Depending on capacity, the intern/volunteer could be trained in processing applications and/or referrals for public assistance programs and any other entitlement programs as needed by the client.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Intern/Volunteer will have the opportunity to learn about social work profession and be exposed to social service practice.   Intern/volunteer will shadow the Senior Outreach worker, assist Norwalk residents in accessing social service benefits and specifically assist with Renter’s Rebate Program and Energy Assistance.   Intern will attend regular team meetings and supervision.  Intern/volunteer will have the opportunity to develop goals for personal and professional growth.
