The Role

As a 2D Game Art Intern at Nex. inc, you will play a vital role in visualizing and building our game worlds. You will work alongside experienced artists to create a wide range of assets, from expressive character sprites and concept sketches to immersive environments and intuitive UI. This internship is designed to immerse you in the full production pipeline, teaching you how to balance artistic flair with gameplay readability. If you are passionate about visual storytelling, have a sharp eye for color and composition, and are eager to see your artwork playable on screen, we want to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Create 2D assets, including characters, environments, props, and UI elements, and illustrations based on design briefs.
  • Research and produce sketches, mood boards, and color keys to help visualize new game features or mechanics.
  • Assist teams in preparing sprites, texture atlases, and animations for implementation into the game engine.
  • Occasionally assist in creating promotional artwork, icons, or banners for marketing and publishing

What You'll Learn

  • Gain hands-on experience with the game art production pipeline, from initial concept sketches to final in-game asset integration.
  • Learn to adapt your artistic style to match existing project guidelines and maintain visual consistency
  • Develop the ability to give and receive constructive artistic critique to iterate and improve your work rapidly

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating a solid foundation in drawing and
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint
  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate from a program in Fine Arts, Multi-Media, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • A genuine love for video games and a desire to understand what makes a game visually appealing and fun to play.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a proactive attitude toward asking questions and seeking clarity.

Nice to Have

  • Basic familiarity with Unity (e.g., importing assets, basic scene setup).
  • A good grasp on animation principles
  • Experience with 2D animation software (Spine2D) or traditional frame-by-frame animation.
  • A basic understanding of user interface design and user experience principles.
  • Proficiency with vector-based tools like Adobe Illustrator or video editing tools like After Effects.
  • Participation in past game jams or personal game projects.
