Job Description: Social Work Intern – School-Based Placement

Position Title: Social Work Intern 

Location: [Multiple Locations in Broward/Homestead]

Department: Student Support Services

Reports To: School Social Worker / Internship Supervisor

Internship Type: Unpaid / Academic Credit (as applicable)

Schedule: [M-F, 10-30 Hours per week] | [Fall and Spring Semester]

 

 Overview

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Social Work Interns to join our school-based team and support the emotional, social, and academic well-being of students. This internship offers hands-on experience in a dynamic educational environment, allowing interns to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges while making a meaningful impact in students’ lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe and participate in individual and group counseling sessions under supervision of LCSW or related fields.
  • Support crisis intervention efforts and help manage behavioral concerns
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and families to promote student success
  • Help connect students and families with community resources and services
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold confidentiality standards
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote mental health and inclusivity

 Learning Objectives

  • Develop practical skills in assessment, intervention, and advocacy
  • Gain insight into school social work roles and responsibilities
  • Understand the intersection of education, mental health, and social justice
  • Strengthen communication and collaboration skills in a professional setting

 Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a BSW or MSW program (or related field)
  • Strong interest in child and adolescent development, education, and equity
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
  • Commitment to cultural competence and trauma-informed care

Supervision & Support

Interns will receive weekly supervision from a licensed social worker and have opportunities for professional development, reflection, and feedback throughout the placement.
