Position Summary:
The Development Intern provides hands-on support to the Development team and gains practical experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and special events. This internship is designed to expose students to the full lifecycle of philanthropy, including donor research, stewardship, database support, and fundraising events. The intern will work closely with Development staff on both administrative and project-based assignments while developing professional skills in a mission-driven environment. This internship is for our Summer term which will run from early June-mid August 2026. Compensation is $15.00/hour up to 20 hours per week.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
General
· Provides administrative support to the Development team, including data entry, mailings, and acknowledgment letters
· Helps prepare materials for donor meetings, sponsorships, and grants
· Supports special projects as assigned
Outdoor Concerts: Jazz on the Green, Music at Miller Park, Global Sounds
· Ensures fulfillment of sponsorship benefits
· Coordinates sponsor communications and materials (logos, benefits, acknowledgements)
· Manages onsite event setup and teardown of reserved sponsor area
· Serves as onsite Development contact during events
· Compiles post-event reporting, including sponsor deliverables, attendance data, and revenue summaries
Education and Community Engagement
· Performs research related to O-pa’s education programs, including gathering information about schools and student participation
· Assists with preparing and sending reports to public officials regarding O-pa’s education and community engagement programs
Donor Special Events
· Assists with the planning and execution of donor special events, including recognition receptions, cultivation events, campaign-related events, and other Development events
· Supports post-event stewardship efforts, including preparing follow-up materials, acknowledgments, and assisting with reporting and documentation
Donor Lounges
· Assists with hosting the donor lounges in the Orpheum Theater and Holland Center
Data/Donor Archiving
· Assists Development Systems Coordinator with maintaining donor files
· Maintains the confidentiality of donor records
Requirements
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
· Interest in nonprofit development, fundraising, arts administration, or a related field
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with guidance and supervision
· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and established procedures
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) or willingness to learn
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with people from diverse backgrounds
· Availability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends for events
Minimum Education Requirements:
· Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university program (undergraduate or graduate)
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· None
Physical Demands:
· Required to sit for extended periods of time.
· Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Equipment/Machinery Used:
· General office equipment (computer, telephone, fax, copier and printer).
