Working as a part of a team, the Purchasing Group supports Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process to maximize service to external and internal customers, contributing to the strong and reliable reputation of Volker Stevin Group as a whole. The Purchasing Assistant supports the Purchaser by assisting with creating purchasing orders in the Viewpoint System and placing the orders to the vendors for the Project Manager and field crews

This is a summer student position with a term from May – August 2026



How You’ll Add Value

 

  • Data entry of customer information into electronic purchase order forms
  • Ensure purchase orders in Viewpoint accurately reflect customer requirements
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Accounts Payable, and Receiving to resolve purchase order questions
  • Complete purchase order reconciliations and investigations weekly, monthly, and at year end
  • Provide feedback to the Purchaser on P2P process issues and improvement opportunities
  • Support P2P process changes and system enhancements to meet business goals
  • Ensure month-end Accounts Payable deadlines are met and current-month invoices are entered
  • Support timely vendor payments in accordance with agreed payment terms
  • Communicate with vendors professionally, helpfully, and confidentially by phone or email
  • Address requests promptly using a proactive problem-solving approach and escalate issues when required



What You Bring

  • Must be returning to post secondary school in September 2026 
  • Professional demeanor with a positive image in public, team, and client interactions
  • Experience working in a customer service setting
  • Experience working with a database and/or financial system is an asset
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Work, Outlook)
  • Valid Class 5Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract

Criteria for position

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (college, university, or technical program)
  • Returning to post-secondary studies after completing the work term
