Working as a part of a team, the Project Coordinator will provide overall support for projects for McMurray and surrounding areas. The Project Coordinator is accountable for managing all aspects of construction projects, including supervision, scheduling, procurement, safety oversight, subcontractor coordination and cost control. This role will also be accountable for completing quantity take-offs, preparing cost estimates, communicating with crews and sub-trades to determine best work practices. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, while cultivating strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and field teams.

This is a summer student position with a term from May – August 2026

Location for position is in Fort McMurray, AB.



How You’ll Add Value

 

  • Actively contribute to Volker Stevin safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment  
  • Manage and direct project teams through clear communication, coordination, and follow-ups to achieve project goals and objectives
  • Establish project procedures aligned with contractual documents and the HSE Manual
  • Ensure all work products meet industry standards and comply with applicable codes and specifications.
  • Clearly define and communicate the project scope, schedule, and budget to senior management, participants, and clients
  • Oversee and maintain project schedules and budgets, ensuring alignment with defined goals and objectives
  • Track schedule and budget progress, addressing any deviations to meet project milestones and deadlines
  • Secure approvals for any changes to project scope, budget, or schedule as required
  • Conduct onsite inspections to assess conditions, risks, and activities that may not be detailed in tender documents
  • Attend and actively participate in onsite meetings with clients, stakeholders, sub-trades, suppliers, and team members
  • Prepare and organize bid files, including all supporting information used in estimate preparation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contact information for suppliers, subcontractors, and clients
  • Ensure all client interactions are constructive, solution-oriented, and contribute to overall customer satisfaction
  • Supervise construction projects to maintain high service standards, addressing any necessary changes promptly
  • Collaborate with and support field teams to ensure safe operations, steady project progression, and optimized service delivery
  • Actively engage in the company’s safety culture, including participating in safety training, meetings, inspections, and addressing safety and environmental concerns
  • Support Site Foremen and Superintendents in conducting safety meetings, reviewing safety minutes, and ensuring concerns are resolved

What You Bring

  • Currently working towards a civil engineering degree or diploma, and are returning to school in September 2026.
  • Experience working with construction crews and experience in heavy civil construction is an asset.
  • Proven ability to collaborate, coordinate, guide, and support field teams to ensure crews work safely and projects progress efficiently to optimize overall service delivery
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to project a positive image when interacting with the public, internal teams, and external clients
  • Valid Class 5 Operator’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits an no major infractions
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including overtime, and travel to various remote areas as required

Criteria for position

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (college, university, or technical program)
  • Returning to post-secondary studies after completing the work term
