Working as a part of a team with Special Projects, the Project Assistant is responsible for supporting and assisting Project Supervisors/Estimators with management of awarded and/or negotiated Special Construction Projects within Calgary and surrounding areas.   

This is a summer student position with a term from May – August 2026



How You’ll Add Value

 

  • Actively contribute to Volker Stevin Contracting safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment  
  • Read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications to support material selection and project work 
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and budget tracking to keep projects on track 
  • Help prepare estimates, gather material pricing, and support tendering and subcontract management 
  • Conduct on-site inspections and report progress or any issues 
  • Support change order management and assess impacts on cost and schedule 
  • Identify and help resolve discrepancies in project costs or construction work 
  • Maintain accurate records to assist with invoicing and project documentation 
  • Work closely with operations and field teams to prevent delays and ensure smooth project execution 
  • Attend pre-bid and project meetings to learn about project scope, priorities, and client requirements 


What You Bring

 

  • Pursuing a Civil Engineering Degree or Diploma at a post-secondary institute and returning to school in September 2025 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions 
  • Prior experience in the heavy construction industry is an asset 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Advanced Excel) 


Criteria for position


To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (college, university, or technical program)
  • Returning to post-secondary studies after completing the work term
