Working as a part of a team, the Project Assistant, Roads will support the execution of Roads Projects within the City of Calgary and surrounding areas. The Project Assistant will be involved with the estimation and planning, execution, and administration of the projects. 


This is a summer student position 8 months from May – Dec 2026. 


How You’ll Add Value

  • Actively contribute to Volker Stevin Contracting safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Manage and direct project teams through clear communication, coordination, and follow-ups to achieve project goals and objectives
  • Clearly define and communicate the project scope, schedule, and budget to senior management, participants, and clients
  • Oversee and maintain project schedules and budgets, ensuring alignment with defined goals and objectives
  • Track schedule and budget progress, addressing any deviations to meet project milestones and deadlines
  • Secure approvals for any changes to project scope, budget, or schedule as required
  • Conduct onsite inspections to assess conditions, risks, and activities not detailed in tender documents
  • Attend and actively participate in onsite meetings with clients, stakeholders, sub-trades, suppliers, and team members
  • Prepare and organize bid files, including all supporting information used in estimate preparation
  • Collaborate with and support field teams to ensure safe operations, steady project progression, and optimized service delivery
  • Actively engage in the company’s safety culture, including participating in safety training, meetings, inspections, and addressing safety and environmental concerns

What You Bring

  • Pursuing a Civil Engineering Degree or Diploma at a post-secondary institute and returning to post-secondary studies after completing the work term.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Prior experience in the heavy construction industry is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office(Word and Advanced Excel)

Criteria for position

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (college, university, or technical program)
  • Returning to post-secondary studies after completing the work term
