About the Role

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee

GMC has an opening for Environmental Summer Intern to support on-going projects in our Birmingham, AL office. This position will assist with field assessments to support our engineering and biological teams and help prepare technical reports and plans in accordance with company and agency requirements.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Perform field work in support of monitoring (tree plots), delineations, and stormwater infrastructure assessments
  • Conduct assessments utilizing GIS equipment 
  • Assist in environmental work which could include wetland delineations and permitting, threatened and endangered species surveys, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and National Environmental Policy Act documentation
  • NPDES General Construction Permit compliance and inspections
  • Other activities as directed by your supervisor

Experience/Knowledge:

  • 0-4 years of knowledge/experience in a Science related field
  • Working knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS)
  • Experience with geospatial data collection

Travel requirements:

  • 50% Office and 50% Field
  • Occasional overnight travel

Physical demands 

  • Ability to work in an office setting while also maintaining the ability to provide satisfactory field work, when needed. Field demands include prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions and hauling of various equipment and instruments used to conduct field assessment and surveys.
