About the program
The Working in Science Internship Program is designed for last year's students and recent graduates who want to apply what they’ve learned in a real, global biotechnology environment. You’ll contribute to meaningful projects, gain mentorship, and develop skills that set you up for future success.

The Portfolio & Capacity Management (P&C) Team sits within the Chief Operating Office of the Oncology R&D Business Unit. As a P&C Intern, you will ensure high-quality data, clear insights, and efficient processes that enable portfolio and resource capacity decisions across a global R&D organization. Working under the guidance of experienced team members, you will contribute to data maintenance and analysis, build and refresh reporting assets, and help evolve tools and training that underpin portfolio and capacity management.

General requirements

  • Education: Student in data/analytics, engineering, finance, mathematics, business/management, or life sciences (final years preferred).
  • English: Strong written and spoken English; comfortable collaborating with UK/US teams and joining cross‑time‑zone calls when needed.
  • Collaboration & communication: Work well with others; communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Learning mindset: Curious, open to feedback, and comfortable following guidance.
  • Time management: Organized, meet deadlines, and flag issues early.
  • Nice to have: Exposure to portfolio management, capacity planning, or business analytics.

 

Required skills

  • Analytical & data quality: Work end‑to‑end with data—collect, clean, and structure; spot variances and trends; check accuracy and reconcile across sources with attention to detail.
  • Excel: Proficient with pivots, lookups, formulas, and charts (Power Query helpful).
  • Visualization: Create/update simple dashboards or reports (Power BI helpful).
  • Presentation creation: Build clear, well‑structured slides and concise summaries; communicate insights confidently and tailor messages to the audience.
  • Tech savvy: Hands‑on with systems; interest in AI tools and how they can support work (training provided as needed).
  • Process improvement: Basic familiarity with simple workflows and automations (e.g., VBA or Power Automate); willing to learn Lean/Agile basics.
  • Problem solving: Identify risks/issues early and suggest practical next steps.
  • Motivation: Eager to learn and grow within the Portfolio & Capacity Management team.
  • Nice to have: Basic SQL, Python, and/or Power BI skills.

Key details

  • Eligibility: Final year students and recent graduates. Please review the specific requirements for each role.
  • Duration: 3 months, starting in July.
  • Working model: Hybrid, with partial on‑site presence.
  • Selection process: Application review against objective criteria, HireVue video responses, then a remote meeting with the recruiting team.
  • Timeline: Apply by 21 March 2026. Results by mid-April.
