About the Role
Hardware Test Engineer Intern

The Opportunity:

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of hardware and cybersecurity engineers to evaluate secure systems for Department of Defense (DoD) clients using a structured Whitebox adversarial testing methodology. Support testing of systems assessed against NIST 800-53 Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Raise the Bar (RTB) security control requirements, with focus areas including Low-level hardware and firmware interactions, Mandatory Access Controls (MAC) and Discretionary Access Controls (DAC), Data flow enforcement and filtering mechanisms, Secure boot and firmware integrity validation, and Virtualization and hypervisor boundary protections. Assist with executing approved test cases, documenting findings, and contributing to technical reports. Gain hands-on exposure to hardware test environments, automation scripting, and secure architecture analysis while building foundational knowledge from experienced engineers.

You Have:

  • Experience in cybersecurity, hardware, or embedded systems, including academic, lab, or project-based
  • Experience with Linux distributions and basic system administration
  • Experience with virtualization technologies
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and the OSI model
  • Knowledge of basic hardware concepts, such as FPGA, microcontrollers, firmware, and system architecture
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Scheduled to obtain a Bachelor’s degree by Summer 2027

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with programming or scripting in C, C++, Python, Bash, or VHDL and Verilog
  • Experience working with FPGA, embedded systems, or firmware development
  • Experience with debugging or analysis tools such as GDB, logic analyzers, or Wireshark
  • Experience with penetration testing concepts or adversarial methodologies
  • Knowledge of system hardening and vulnerability mitigation techniques
  • Secret clearance

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $55,200.00 to $126,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
