About the Role

Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor the Counselor Intern shall assist in the orderly and systematic operation of the Outpatient Treatment Unit. The counselor intern provides individual and group counseling, case management, and ongoing support to clients receiving medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorders and other substance use disorders.  

The counselor intern will monitor client attendance, medicationsand urine drug screen results. Counselor will provide clinical interventions as needed and will be proficient in crisis management. Counselor will work closely with the medical team, including providers and nurses, to ensure integrated, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care. Familiarize self with record-keeping practices and standards. Participate in administrative and clinical meetings as required. Practice 12 core functions of counseling. Participate in supervisory sessions and six month evaluations. Learn and adhere to ethical standards of counselors. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and promotes client engagement, harm reduction, and relapse prevention strategies. The counselor intern will inform clients that clinical services are being provided by counselor in training under the supervision of a licensed counselor.
