About the Role

Summary/Objective:

Callisons is looking for a technician for an internship who would like to explore Flavor Development & Applications in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry with our Technical Team. This R&D Intern will work closely with flavor scientists and product developers to test (physical, chemical, sensory) and evaluate flavor-related new prototypes in the lab, and make recommendations for next phase improvements for quality, sensory attributes and functionality. If the candidate demonstrates capability and cultural fit, we would be open to evaluating a transition pathway into a full-time role.

Essential Functions:

Learn and assist with flavor product development including

  • Follow recipes and collaborate with R&D staff to prepare flavor formulation.
  • Incorporate flavor samples into a variety of applications (such as food, beverages, and person care products) to evaluate flavor performance.
  • Design and conduct lab trials to prove scientific concepts and provide flavor recommendations under the guidance of flavorist and scientists.
  • Participate in sensory evaluation of ingredients, flavor compounds and application products as needed.
  • Create prototypes to showcase flavors and support customer projects.
  • Develop expertise in applications to be able to mimic customers’ process and raw material order of addition to solve flavor problems.
  • Maintain records for all formulation processes and lab notes to comply with internal standards and regulatory guidelines.

Other Duties:

  • Organize and maintain lab environment, including product samples, equipment, formulation records, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams as needed to support continuous operation.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with safety standards and laboratory best practices, including the proper handling and storage of raw materials and finished products.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and contribute ideas for new product development in processes and formulations.

 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • STEM knowledge in general, strong foundation and understanding of physics, chemistry and food science
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Eager to learn analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Willing to communicate, discuss and share thoughts in a team environment

 Required Experience:

  • Experience with laboratory work, group projects, science presentation and/or team product development competition
  • Competency in Microsoft programs including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Pursuing a degree (Bachelor of Science or graduate degree) or recently finished a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Cosmetic Science, Agricultural or related major
  • Curiosity for experimentation and tasting different types of flavor and CPG products
  • Proven records of outstanding writing and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and industry standards
