About the Role

We are excited to announce our 2026 Summer Internship program!

Our 1L summer internship program runs for 8 weeks from Tuesday, June 9th, to Tuesday, August 4th. The program is hybrid, with in-office work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and we provide all necessary equipment to help you succeed in your role.

The summer internship will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work with Delta Dental’s General Counsel and legal and compliance team members who support all the company’s functions and operations. Other features of the summer internship program include:

  • Participation in training programs presented by Delta Dental attorneys, highlighting different areas of the business and the legal department.
  • Pairing with an attorney who will serve as a manager during the program and will guide projects and other substantive work.
  • Interviewing skill development and mock interview practice.
  • Networking both within Delta Dental and externally with law firms and regulatory affairs groups.
  • Presentation development and delivery.
  • Participate in pro bono and volunteer opportunities.
  • Receive assistance with resume and LinkedIn profile development
  • Assigned a LinkedIn Learning license during the internship
  • The opportunity shadow attorneys on various projects.
  • Interns will have the opportunity to have lunch with Delta Dental’s CEO.
  • Opportunities to interview with selected local firms for mock interviews and potential 2L internships.

The starting hourly wage for this position will be $30.00, or $1,125 for each 37.5-hour work week.

Job Summary

The legal intern will support Delta Dental attorneys on a diverse array of legal issues and practice areas, including Insurance, Claims, Commercial, Marketing, and Regulatory Compliance; Employment Law; Group Insurance Law; ERISA Products; Privacy, Intellectual Property and Technology; and Non-Profit Law.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

The work will be diverse and dynamic, providing valuable exposure to key legal processes in the entertainment sector. Some examples of responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and analyzing commercial contracts, service and administration agreements, and other legal documents related to insurance and technology.
  • Researching and preparing legal memos on topics such as insurance law, healthcare-related laws, privacy (with a focus on HIPAA and HITECH rules), corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborating with corporate counsel on special projects and initiatives, and
  • Participating in professional development sessions, mentorship opportunities, and networking events with legal and business professionals.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A self-starter who is comfortable working with minimal supervision. 
  • Excellent reading, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. 
  • Ability to multitask and meet required deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Team Player: ability to see the organization's big picture goals and contribute to day-to-day tasks.

Experience, Education, and Certifications Required 

  • Applicants must be enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school and have completed the first year of law school with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). The applicant must be scheduled for graduation in spring 2027 (full-time students) or spring 2028 (part-time students). 
  • Interns who are not local to New Jersey will be responsible for their own housing and transportation to and from Delta Dental’s headquarters in Parsippany, New Jersey.
  • Delta Dental does not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Successful candidates must possess the requisite US employment authorization to be eligible for consideration.
