Corporate Communications & Events is a shared service supporting VGM Group. This team provides marketing, branding, communications and events support to more than 20 VGM business units and 1600+ employee owners across 5 locations and 40 states.
Position Summary: The Events Intern will assist and support the events team with internal and external meetings, events, tradeshows and conferences of VGM Group companies. This includes involvement in planning, marketing, budgeting, coordination, supervision and evaluation. Interaction with internal and external customers or potential customers is possible with sales support as needed. The right candidate must be detail oriented, demonstrate good communication skills and work well in a team and individual environment. As an intern, one will be afforded the opportunity to work and experience VGM’s unique business environment and dynamic culture. The intern must be able to handle multiple concurrent projects and be very detail oriented.

Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm CST during summer months. Part time hours available during fall months
Working Location: Onsite at VGM Headquarters in Waterloo, IA
Compensation: Paid internship; the selected candidate will be well compensated and will have growth opportunities within VGM
Key Responsibilities: Success as an Events intern is evaluated by the quality and execution of tasked events, and the satisfaction of the client and participating attendees.
- Assist in planning, coordination, and implementation of monthly employee appreciation events
- Organize internal and external events
- Request/order, review and approve appropriate collateral material and premium items
- Responsible for tracking all invoices and expenses
- Maintain accurate records of events and orders
Qualifications: Preferable qualified candidates should be junior or senior standing with an emphasis/major of study in public relations, marketing, or communications.
- Must possess and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and details simultaneously
- Ability to multitask and prioritize job duties
- Strong organizational and time management skill
- Excellent interpersonal skills both in the office and at off-site/after-hours events
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Team player that is flexible and able to adapt to change
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication ability
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department
Physical Requirements
- Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment
- Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision
