About the Role

STUDENT PROGRAM FORMAT:

This student program will follow an in-person model. Students will be based at the Stellantis Headquarters and Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan and/or the Chelsea Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan. Students are expected to work 24 hours per week, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Candidates who are selected for the program will work with their manager to determine a consistent weekly work schedule where candidates fulfill the 24-hour requirement, while balancing their class schedule. During the summer months, student employees may potentially work 40 hours per week. This determination will be at management’s discretion. Applications are accepted year-round, and student program cohorts start on a quarterly basis in January, April, June, and September, and students are intended to stay in the program until graduation.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS:

The Stellantis Technical Safety and Regulatory Certification (TSRC) Student Program Participant will have the opportunity to work in the exciting world of regulatory certification and compliance. This role performs certification and compliance testing and analysis to support emissions and OBD (Onboard Diagnostics) certification for all vehicles sold in the United States and Canada.

The student may be assigned different responsibilities in multiple rotations. These assignments will provide an opportunity for hands on experience with vehicle testing, data analysis, and presentations to management, as well as tool building to improve how we run our business.

 

Assignments may include:

  • In Use Verification Testing: Tailpipe emissions or evaporative emissions testing would be performed on customer vehicles to monitor performance of vehicles in actual customer use. Results would be prepared and validated for agency submission. Testing would be coordinated with test labs in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This task will provide hands on experience with test definition systems, test vehicles, and test labs.
  • Production Vehicle Evaluation testing: Coordination or technical information, testing of vehicle OBD systems, and troubleshooting or OBD system issues will be performed on production vehicles to verify performance for OBD compliance reporting. This task will provide hands on experience with vehicles and tools that interface with propulsion system computers. This task will also provide experience with how diagnostics are performed on. Testing may be coordinated with an outside supplier.
  • OBD communication system testing: Conduct testing to confirm that the vehicle has the ability to properly communicate data required by regulation to a service scan tool.
  • Development of tools to improve or automate processes: The student employee will be given the opportunity and encouraged to identify ways to improve efficiency in testing and/or reporting of results.
  • Regulatory certification and compliance: Perform investigations of issues related to the performance of emissions-related components in the field.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pursuing an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Candidates must have a valid and unrestricted driver's license
  • Ability to work 24 hours per week, year-round

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pursuing an Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university
  • Achievement of at least Sophomore status at an accredited university at the time of hire
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work within a team and on your own
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office and One Drive
  • Desire to work hands-on with vehicles using electronic tools
  • Achievement of Sophomore status at the time of hire
  • Hands on experience with vehicles
  • Matlab/Simulink experience
  • Understanding on vehicle emissions systems or OBD systems
