Role and Responsibilities:

GNYHA is seeking a Health Finance & Policy intern for a paid opportunity this summer. The Finance, Economics, Surveys & Outcomes Research department conducts research and analysis on various health care trends and policy issues to support GNYHA’s advocacy on behalf of member hospitals. Reporting to the Senior Director, Health Economics and Finance, Federal Policy, the Health Finance & Policy intern will assist with a broad range of issues including tracking of Federal and State policies and assisting with related quantitative research.

The intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with summarizing and analyzing annual updates and policy changes related to hospital payments, and producing related resources for GNYHA members
  • Monitoring policy related to hospital quality measurement and hospital value-based reimbursement programs, including tracking member participation and performance in related initiatives
  • Maintaining previously developed analytic tools offered to members, and suggesting potential improvements 
  • Supporting Finance, Economics, Surveys & Outcomes Research staff in identifying topics of interest and developing GNYHA member presentations and programs
  • Supporting research activities of the Finance, Economics, Surveys & Outcomes Research department

Required Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student, either at the bachelor’s or associate’s level in a relevant field, including but not limited to economics, finance, public health, public policy, health administration, or health care management.
  • Strong interest in healthcare, health services research, and health policy
  • Aptitude for quantitative analysis 
  • Superior writing and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex topics in an understandable manner
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Ability to efficiently manage projects with direction and oversight 

Internship Length: The internship will last for eight weeks, starting Tuesday, June 9, until Wednesday, August 5. GNYHA will consider requests to use this internship to fulfill credit requirements.

Work schedule: A hybrid model with the expectation to work physically in our office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays as mandatory in-office days with a fourth in-office day at your discretion, in conjunction with your supervisor and the business needs of your department. This schedule may be subject to change in GNYHA’s sole discretion.

Compensation: The intern will be paid $17.00 per hour for the duration of the program.
