About The Company
City government of Olympia, Washington (State Capitol) Olympia was incorporated in 1859 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2009. Olympia is a Council-Manager city, with a seven member City Council including an elected Mayor. The City Manager has executive authority to oversee and manage municipal services and operations.
About the Role
To qualify, you must currently be enrolled at South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) in an Information Technology Program.

About the Position
Under general supervision, the intern will be responsible for performing the timely Installation of desktop hardware and software as part of a lifecycle replacement project.  As part of the Service Desk team, the intern will assist with direct customer support, software and hardware support.
 
Typical Work:

  • Unpack and inventory new devices.
  • Deployment of operating system and standard desktop software using SCCM.
  • Manual software installation.
  • Configuration of software as needed.
  • Delivery and installation of computer and any peripheral at customer's location.
  • Removal and transportation of replaced computer and any peripheral.
  • Computer and peripheral surplus preparation and documentation.
  • Assist with physical device inventory.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Hardware (printer, computer, monitor) support and installation.
  • Software support and installation.

Working Conditions: 

  • Works from a centralized office but installation and removal of PC's will occur at various field locations and offices.
  • Candidate must be sufficiently mobile to respond to calls at all locations and to move heavy computer equipment and peripherals unassisted when necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to assist and perform installation, maintenance, repair and problem diagnosis for computer hardware and a wide variety of current software applications in a Windows based multi-location environment.
  • Skill in assisting employees with varying levels of computer expertise in the operation of software, computers and peripherals.
  • Ability to work as a member of a customer focused and service oriented team.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at SPSCC in an IT program.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation.

Must be available to work:

  • 19 – 30 hours per week depending on school schedule.
  • Hours of work: 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Position starts in June and can run for no longer than six months.
