About the Role

We are seeking a Harvest Lab Intern! This intern will be responsible for assisting the winemaking team across all aspects of production, with a special focus on the lab. You will be tracking fermentations, performing routine wine analysis and assisting the cellar staff throughout the harvest season. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, hardworking, and detail-oriented individual with a passion for science and learning.

This internship will start in July and extend through November. This is an on-site, temporary position based in Kenwood, CA. 

Job Description

  • Perform routine analysis on both juice and wine samples using wet chemistry methods as well as an autoanalyzer. Analyis will include, but not limited to: TA, pH, Brix, Malic Acid, YAN, Acetic Acid
  • Monitor and log fermentations daily and maintain records in an accurate and time-efficient manner
  • Alert winemaking team of any struggling fermentations
  • Assist vineyard intern with fruit analysis as needed
  • Assist production team in cellar as needed with fruit processing, cap management (punch downs and pump overs), transfers, ingredient additions and inoculation, draining and pressing, and other production duties throughout harvest

Qualifications

  • Previous harvest experience is a plus
  • Flexible and willing to work varying shifts, overtime, and weekends
  • Full-time availability (40-50 hours a week) from early July through end of November or until harvest is completed
  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), further education or ongoing related degree work is preferred
  • Verbal and written English skills preferred
  • Applicants must be able to perform basic math calculations. Good organization with numbers is also critical for accurate record keeping
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, as well as dealing with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, walk/stand for long periods of time in hot and cold climates
  • Adhere to department and company policies, procedures and safety standards

Pay Rate: $22.00 an hour. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
