Join Our Technical Publications Team as a Technical Writer – 6-Month Contract
We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer (term contract) to support our Technical Publications team. This role is ideal for a student (co-op) or recent graduate of a Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or related program who is strong in Microsoft Word and eager to gain hands-on experience in document formatting, editing, and document management systems.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience with regulated technical documentation in an aviation environment.
How You’ll Contribute to the Team
- Reformat company documents into Microsoft Word templates, update styles, and add new styles as needed.
- Provide guidance and training to employees on proper template usage.
- Assist with SharePoint document management tasks, including publishing updates, maintaining metadata, and supporting system improvements.
- Develop training materials for SharePoint and document management systems and provide training to employees.
- Review and edit documents for clarity, grammar, and consistency.
- Work with SMEs to clarify and organize technical content.
- Assist in drafting procedures, work instructions, and internal documentation.
What You’ll Bring
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 1–2 years) from a Technical Communication, Professional Writing, English, Communications, or related program.
- Minimum 1 year experience (academic, co-op, internship, or professional) working with Microsoft Word templates or similar.
- Very strong proficiency in Microsoft Word (styles, numbering, section breaks, tables of contents, templates, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and basic Adobe Acrobat.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint or willingness to learn quickly.
- Strong written communication, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable learning independently, asking questions, and supporting a team environment.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to gain experience in aviation or regulated industries.
- Previous co-op/internship experience in technical writing (preferred).
What’s In It for You
- $26 - $35/hour, based on experience.
- 6-month contract (negotiable) with potential for future contract extensions or permanent opportunity.
- Onsite in Port Alberni, BC preferred; remote work considered for the right candidate.
