About The Company
Mirum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the treatment of rare diseases affecting children and adults. Mirum has three approved medications: LIVMARLI® (maralixibat), CHOLBAM® (cholic acid) capsules, and CTEXLI™ (chenodiol) tablets. LIVMARLI, an IBAT inhibitor, is approved for the treatment of two rare liver diseases affecting children and adults. It is approved for the treatment of cholestatic pruritus in patients with Alagille syndrome in the U.S. (three months and older), in Europe (two months and older), and in other regions globally. It is also approved in the U.S. in cholestatic pruritus in PFIC patients 12 months of age and older; in Europe, it is approved for patients with PFIC three months of age and older. Mirum is also initiating the Phase 3 EXPAND study, a label expansion opportunity for LIVMARLI in additional settings of cholestatic pruritus. CHOLBAM is FDA-approved for the treatment of bile acid synthesis disorders due to single enzyme deficiencies and adjunctive treatment of peroxisomal disorders in patients who show signs or symptoms of liver disease. CTEXLI is FDA-approved for the treatment of cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) in adults. Mirum's late-stage pipeline includes two investigational treatments for several rare diseases. Volixibat, an IBAT inhibitor, is being evaluated in two potentially registrational studies including the Phase 2 VISTAS study for primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and Phase 2b VANTAGE study for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). Volixibat has been granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for the treatment of cholestatic pruritus in patients with PBC. Mirum is also planning for a Phase 2 study evaluating MRM-3379, a PDE4D inhibitor for the treatment of Fragile X syndrome, a rare genetic neurocognitive disorder.

Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our Mirum Medical Affairs team. This internship offers hands-on experience to various Medical Affairs functions, which may include Medical Communications, Publications, Medical Information, Medical Excellence & Operations, and/or Field Medical; exposure to real-world projects; and an opportunity to develop professional skills in a collaborative environment. The Medical Affairs Intern will support the Medical Affairs team in advancing medical and scientific communications within various rare diseases.

  • This will be an 8 to 12 week assignment, 40 hours/week, paid internship
  • Housing costs will not be reimbursed
  • Required to be on-site in Foster City, CA

Responsibilities and Main Tasks

  • Gain exposure and support identified traditional medical affairs activities, which may include medical communications, medical information, medical review, publications, medical excellence & operations, and field medical affairs activities
  • Support development of medical and scientific materials including assisting with medical review of materials to ensure scientific accuracy and appropriate data interpretation
  • Support planning and execution of scientific exchange activities, including advisory boards, national and regional congress activities, and small group interactions
  • Support the team in day-to-day operations and ad-hoc Medical Affairs projects and strategic initiatives as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and learn how Medical Affairs strategy, tactics, activities, and initiatives are shaped
  •  Shadow various members of the Medical Affairs team and other cross-functional partners as identified
  •  At the conclusion of the internship, prepare a comprehensive review of the internship experience and present to the team

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an advanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, MS) in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field
  • Strong interest in Medical Affairs
  • Strong scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced biotech environment
