Job Summary


The Summer Laboratory Internship at Tilley Distribution, Inc. is a hands-on experience designed for students pursuing degrees in Chemistry, Food Science, or related scientific disciplines. Interns will work directly within our Quality organization and gain real-world exposure to laboratory testing, quality control systems, and food/chemical industry standards.


This role is built from the core responsibilities of our Quality Technician role and is designed to prepare interns for careers in quality assurance, laboratory science, and regulated manufacturing environments. 


Essential Functions / General Accountabilities


As a Summer Lab Intern, you will support day-to-day laboratory and quality operations under the guidance of an experienced Quality professional. Your work will include:

 

Laboratory Testing & Analysis

  • Perform routine laboratory testing on incoming raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Learn and apply analytical techniques such as:
    • Specific Gravity
    • Refractive Index
    • Moisture Analysis
    • UV‑Vis Spectroscopy
    • Gas Chromatography

 

Quality Systems & Data Management

  • Accurately document test results and enter analytical data into a Laboratory Information Management System 
  • Review laboratory records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal quality procedures, equipment & Laboratory Operations[AF1] 
  • Assist with daily laboratory equipment checks and calibrations
  • Learn proper laboratory maintenance practices and the importance of instrument reliability in quality decision‑making, non-conformance & continuous Improvement[AF2] 
  • Support root cause investigations related to quality non-conformances
  • Participating in corrective and preventive action activities
  • Observe how quality issues are identified, investigated, and resolved in a production environment
  • Understanding of SOPs, documentation, and controlled quality systems

 

Cross-Functional Exposure

  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, and Operations teams
  • See how laboratory results directly impact manufacturing decisions and product release

 

Job Qualifications


  •  Are pursuing a BS or MS in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related scientific field

 

Skills

 

  • Experience in laboratory science, quality systems, or manufacturing environments
  •  High-interest, structured work; problem-solving; and working with data. Desire hands-on experience that directly translates to full-time QA/QC roles
