About The Company
Founded by Fred R. Smith in 1949 as Bellingham Stevedoring Company, we began our first cargo handling operations in a small corner of Washington State. Driven by a pioneering spirit, our family-owned company saw steady growth over the years, expanding up and down the West Coast to operate a significant market share of the major international terminals in the eastern Pacific. Today, we have become a global enterprise spanning more than 260 locations across five continents.
We continue to broaden our reach by developing new locations and upgrading existing facilities, providing some of the most technologically advanced facilities in the world.
We partner to move commerce with efficiency, flexibility, and integrity.
With operations across five continents and a vast network of interconnected transportation solutions, we open new opportunities that accelerate the growth and pace of global business. Improving the customer experience is at the heart of everything we do, so we make purposeful investments in people, facilities and technical innovations that deliver the greatest customer value.
About the Role
Summary/Objective:
Under the direct supervision of a full-time salaried employee designated as his or her sponsor, the student intern performs work that is intentionally to provide the needed experience for a career substantially similar to that of the sponsor. This work should provide opportunities to gain experience and should bring value to the company. A student internship should not exceed one-year in length without written agreement of both senior management over the group sponsoring the intern, and the executive responsible for human resources. In no case should a student internship exceed two years in length.

Essential Responsibilities:
* Maintain punctuality arriving to and departing from work, according to the schedule agreed upon with the student intern sponsor for that school term.
* Completing and submitting a timesheet at the end of every workweek.
* Taking notes of instructions provided in order to complete the assigned work with little oversight.
* Attending meeting when requested and taking notes when learning opportunities arise.
* Manage work queue to avoid periods of having to wait on others for work to do.
* Maintain a B or better grade average every term.
* Staying busy means managing your time, which in turn requires looking beyond the immediate task and consulting your sponsor prior to having nothing to do.
* Develop relationships with your sponsor's peers and manager that can lead to learning opportunities.
* Take good notes so that the instructions provided by your sponsor do not need to be unreasonably repeated. Your sponsor will be busy, and although they may want to drop what they are working on to help you, they may simply not have that option.
* Other duties as assigned
