About the Role

As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern, you will contribute to, integrate and validate software features on Auterion-powered unmanned aerial vehicles. You will gain exposure to Auterion’s full technology stack while improving our state of the art autonomous vehicle solutions, and develop insights into real-world testing and validation of a range of new products. You will work closely with software engineers, hardware experts and flight test engineers. You will have many opportunities to learn, grow your skillset and take ownership of your tasks in a young, dynamic company.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Focus on the PX4 and NuttX layers of our stack, but also interact with our custom Linux distribution.
  • Add and maintain new features, drivers and targets to PX4 and NuttX.
  • Write and read code in C (NuttX), C++14 (PX4) and Python ≥3.8 (testing).
  • Improve reliability of our autopilots via CI and automated software and hardware testing.
  • Debug and fix simple and complex bugs in our stack.
  • Write and improve documentation of PX4, NuttX and debug and testing systems.
  • Interact with the PX4 community and evangelize your work.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Studying towards (in the final two semesters) or have already completed a Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, robotics or a related field.
  • Proven software development experience. C/C++ and/or Python is preferred.
  • Fundamental understanding of microcontroller development and debugging.
  • Experience with communication protocols like I2C, SPI and UART.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux, and interacting with it using a terminal.
  • Understanding of software testing methodologies, with an interest in fuzz testing.
  • Familiarity with some of the following: Git, Docker, Pytest, and software tracing.
  • Experience with robot hardware and electronics.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Bonus: Experience contributing to PX4 and/or other open source projects.
  • Eligible to work in Switzerland.
