About The Company
Circular Action Alliance (CAA) is a U.S. Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) dedicated to implementing effective Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws for paper and packaging. As a nonprofit, producer-led organization, CAA is committed to delivering harmonized, best-in-class compliance services to all producers to advance an efficient and effective circular economy. CAA was founded in 2022 by 20 producers representing the food, beverage, consumer goods, and retail industries. CAA is the only organization approved to implement U.S. EPR laws for paper and packaging, and is operating as the single PRO in California and Colorado. CAA has submitted an initial program plan to operate as the PRO in Oregon, and has also been selected to represent producer interests as the PRO on the State Producer Responsibility Advisory Council in Maryland.

Circular Action Alliance (CAA) helps producers comply with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws, delivers harmonized best-in-class services, and works with governments, businesses, and communities to reduce waste and increase recycling.

Role Overview

We are seeking detail-oriented and proactive interns in our organization. This is an exciting time to join CAA as we are in the early stages of implementing the Recycling Modernization Act in Oregon, the first US packaging EPR program to launch in the U.S.

Our interns will play a critical role in helping deliver projects and key business deliverables for CAA. The intern will play a key role completing projects that support the function of the audit center and research to expand recycling.

Key Responsibilities

  • This 2-month internship involves supporting various projects relating to the sampling and composition data being recovered at the audit center. This facility is a key element of the EPR program, yielding information that informs data-driven decisions.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiencywith basic computer applications (e.g., Excel, Google Workspace) and comfort working with data sets.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and collaborate with team members.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in Environmental Science, Data Analytics, Sustainability, Public Policy, Operations, ora relatedfield.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, including traveling to work in Portland, OR

Compensation & Other Information

  • Location: Hybrid, partial report and in office (Portland, OR)
  • Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour. Since this is a temporary position, it is not eligible for benefits
  • Interns must have their own laptop and access to high-speed internet.
  • Reports To:Jake Anderson, Recycling Operations Specialist
