About the Role

Description

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Summer Research & Development Intern to primarily focus on preparations for tritium breeding tests. Work would include a safety analyses (radiation, beryllium, chemical hazards), training on and installation of tritium monitoring hardware, preparing data acquisition workflows, and other hands-on tasks. This may also be complemented by computational modeling work including neutronics and tritium production/transport calculations. 


The base salary range for this position is $20.00/hour-$23.00/hour.


Duties and Responsibilities of the Research and Development Intern:

  • Assist in the design and fabrication of mechanical and electrical components for a tritium breeding test setup.
  • Learn proper lab and shop operating procedures.
  • Aid in the assembly and wiring of electrical control and data acquisition systems.
  • Participate in the execution of experimental tests, collecting and analyzing data.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and maintaining the test stand equipment.
  • Document experimental procedures and results.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Research Engineer and other team members.
  • Assist with general laboratory tasks and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in plasma physics, fusion technology, vacuum technology, high-power electrical engineering, or beam physics.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical circuits, mechanical fabrication, and/or vacuum systems is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools and measurement equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Assist with documentation of assembly, operation, or test procedures as necessary.
  • Assist with day-to-day functions in the lab, including cleaning, material handling, and test execution.
  • Assemble and test electrical and mechanical assemblies.

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
