About the Role

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. 

We are seeking a Communications Intern to Interns will work under the guidance of experienced professionals in communications, as well as alongside those in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry to help tell GMC’s mission of “building communities.” 

This communications internship is designed for college students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the fields of communications and public relations. We are looking for individuals that are eager to learn and work together with a collaborative team. 

This position will be located in our Montgomery, Alabama office, located at 2260 EastChase Lane. 

Compensation for this position will be dependent on year in school and previous experience. A working space and office computer will be provided for use during the internship. 

Essential functions and responsibilities include assisting with the following:

  • Putting together website articles and press releases 
  • Communications collateral, including editing and proofreading project write-ups, articles and other deliverables 
  • Attending events and ceremonies such as site visits, groundbreakings, topping out events, ribbon cuttings, etc. 
  • Content development for social media including research, crafting posts, creating graphics and scheduling 
  • Data collection and entry for various campaigns
  • Office social events

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Able to perform work-related travel and possess a valid driver’s license 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Efficiency in Microsoft Teams, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator), PowerPoint and WordPress 
  • Experience with video editing and other forms of media is a plus
