Job Summary:


The Anesthesia Technician Intern is an integral part of the support of the model of care for inpatients and outpatients undergoing procedures that involve the use of anesthesia. The anesthesia tech is expected to assist with the daily operational flow to ensure Operating Room (OR) procedures have the necessary instrumentation, supplies, and equipment needed by the anesthesia team to provide safe and efficient care to patients and assist other department personnel with anesthesia support. The position requires enrollment in the Medical College of Georgia as a student and good academic standing.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


Assists anesthesia staff with patient preparation for anesthesia. Prepares the room for the patient and anesthesia provider promptly and adheres to universal precautions. Prepares IV solutions and blood warmer devices for use. Clean and prepare monitors and other needed equipment in preparation for use.
Knowledge of aseptic technique, basic medical terminology, anesthesia machines. Good communication skills. Ability to take and follow directions. Ability to analyze and solve problems to meet desired outcomes. Manual dexterity to perform job functions.
Assists in the set-up and insertion of invasive monitoring lines. Ability to set up invasive monitoring equipment. Prepares I.V. fluids, invasive and noninvasive pressure transducers for use by anesthesia personnel. Install, prepare, and maintain mechanical equipment used for anesthesia machines, suction apparatus, respirators, vaporizers, mass spectrometers, blood warmers, etc.
Assist in patient transport to and from OR room as required/requested/needed. Ability to assist with the transfer of critically ill patients or, patient on ventilators.
Maintain stock in the anesthesia machine and carts per established par levels. Inform the responsible person of the need to reorder supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned
