Team Overview:

EDC’s Structured and Project Finance Team (SPF) is a leader in global project and infrastructure finance, playing a significant role in helping Canada grow and diversify its international trade and build trade-enabling infrastructure in Canada.  Since its establishment in 1995, the SPF team has successfully closed over 700 financing transactions globally, totalling more than USD 59 billion. The SPF team also provides thought leadership to internal and government stakeholders on major critical minerals, energy transition, and trade-enabling infrastructure projects. 

Project Finance is a specialized field of finance where financing decisions are based on project-specific cash flows and assets. It is widely used across industries such as energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure and digital infrastructure. EDC’s project finance counterparties include top-tier international sponsors, exporters, law firms and global project finance and investment banks.

Your Summer as a Junior Project Finance Associate:

As a Junior Associate, you’ll work with experienced professionals, supporting complex financing transactions, conducting research and analysis to support the development of financial proposals, and contributing to on-team and corporate projects.

Junior Associate responsibilities may include: 

  • Conducting industry and sector research in relevant sectors or regions

  • Preparing marketing materials, tracking market developments and opportunities, supporting the preparation of financing proposals, conducting market scanning exercises to identify market insights and trends

  • Assisting with the tracking and reporting of prospects, active transactions, and team results

  • Assisting deal teams with due diligence and analysis for new or existing project finance loan transactions

  • Conducting financial analysis; benchmarking financial model assumptions; manipulating and constructing detailed cash flow models

  • Supporting on-team and corporate projects and initiatives aligned with the SPF team’s objectives

What we are looking for: 

  • Candidates graduating in spring/summer 2026 or recently graduated (within one year of completion of studies) from an undergraduate, MBA or Master’s degree, with a focus on finance or related field;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling and spreadsheet applications;

  • Strong negotiation, diplomacy, and persuasion abilities;

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment; and

  • Demonstrated leadership experience (i.e. extracurricular activities, clubs, volunteer roles).

What will make you stand out:

  • Prior work terms or experience in a related field such as project finance, investment banking or corporate banking, or in a finance role within an industry suitable to project financing, such as energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure or digital infrastructure

  • Understanding of energy, renewables, mining/critical minerals, transportation infrastructure or digital infrastructure sectors

  • Enrolment in the CFA Program

  • Ability to communicate in both French and English, as well as other key international trading market languages 

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a valid work visa at the time of application.
  • Applicants must meet government security screening requirements.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in post-secondary studies or have completed their studies within the past year.

Location:

  • This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa. Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)

Compensation Details:

Student, New Grad & Master’s salaries range from $42,900 to $56,550 annually, based on year of study. Please see the salary breakdown by year of study below:

  • 1st Year: $42,900 ($22.00/hour)
  • 2nd Year: $44,850 ($23.00/hour)
  • 3rd Year: $46,800 ($24.00/hour)
  • 4th Year and Beyond: $48,750 ($25.00/hour)
  • New Graduate (Undergraduate): $54,600 ($28.00/hour)
  • Master’s/PhD: $56,550 ($29.00/hour)
