About The Company
Founded in 1911, the Port owns and operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Fishermen’s Terminal — home of the North Pacific fishing fleet — and public marinas. The Port also owns two cruise ship terminals, a grain terminal, real estate assets, and marine cargo terminals through its partnership in the Northwest Seaport Alliance. Port operations help support nearly 200,000 jobs and $7 billion in wages throughout the region. Over the next 19 years, the port’s “Century Agenda” seeks to create an additional 100,000 jobs through economic growth while becoming the nation’s leading green and energy-efficient port.
About the Role

The Port of Seattle Real Estate Asset Management (Real Estate) team oversees commercial, industrial, retail, and hospitality properties located in Seattle as far north as Shilshole Bay Marina and as far south as Terminal 117. The Real Estate team is seeking a college intern to help the Port with a variety of projects. The types of projects include improving visibility of Port-owned properties to external audiences; updating LoopNet leasing listings, leasing flyers, tenant contact info, and rent rolls; organizing the Real Estate team’s SharePoint sites and files; creating lease exhibits and other presentation materials; ad hoc administrative duties for public events (Seafair, etc); and providing support as needed for various maintenance, sustainability/environmental, or capital projects affecting Port properties.

Your summer work will include supporting the Real Estate staff by conducting focused research, presenting findings, making recommendations, and reshaping procedures. Some of what you’ll be doing:

  • Learning about Port properties, the Port lines of business, key policies, and stakeholders.
  • Familiarizing yourself with the Port’s leasing process and lease templates.
  • Collaborating with Port staff on the development of public announcements as needed (public events, capital projects, etc).
  • Participating in Real Estate staff meetings and other meetings, presenting to the team as needed.
  • Gaining exposure to Port-wide initiatives (environmental, transportation, construction, etc) and developing an understanding of their connection to and impact on Port properties and tenants. Supporting the response of Real Estate staff to new Port initiatives.
  • Assessing the existing Real Estate SharePoint sites, standardizing these sites, organizing information, updating content, and improving the overall functionality and user experience.
  • Identifying and summarizing tenant improvement projects, their key elements and impacts to building systems and property management. Updating the existing Building Rules and Regulations to reflect new Building Standards.
  • Gathering current local real estate market data for various property types; developing summaries of data and information that is relevant to Port properties.

  • A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as Planning, Real Estate, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Committed to Equity - You will apply equity and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all aspects of the work.  At the Port of Seattle, equity is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all Port employees.
  • Technical Skills – You are knowledgeable about environmental science related to building operations, with an interest in sustainability, emissions reductions, water conservation, heating and cooling technology, and solid waste reduction. You are skilled in gathering, analyzing, and leveraging research and data to inform decision-making, and are adept at concise technical writing.
  • Collaborator – You are comfortable working as part of a team, sharing ideas, and leveraging the expertise of those around you to advance your work.
  • Strategic Thinker – You can apply creative thinking and innovative solutions to develop strategies to advance the Port’s sustainability, economic development, and equity goals.
  • Self-Motivated – You are interested in your work, have a desire to learn and engage with others, and to grow professionally through this opportunity.
  • Effective Communicator – You have strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, the ability to communicate to a variety of audiences, and the ability to develop and deliver PowerPoint presentations, and written documents that are free of grammatical and typographical errors.
